Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28” NIV)
“Come to me” is an invitation to all—where we meet Jesus on a personal level. It is not about rules and regulation such as what was taught prior to Jesus’ life here on earth.
“…all you who are weary and burdened” In this part of the scripture we find that one and all are welcomed. Even those who are “weary” which refers to those exhausted from daily struggles, while “burdened” refers to those carrying heavy loads. In historical context, this included the crushing weight of legalistic religious laws imposed by the Pharisees.
Life, at times can be overwhelming, burdensome, frustrating, and hard to deal with. All the rules and regulations do not help us to overcome our burdens nor our weariness. Jesus knew this. That is why having a personal relationship with our Lord is so important.
When we have a personal relationship with our Lord, we can go to Him and He can and will ease our burdened and our weariness. This occurs through prayer, meditation, reading the Word, and listening to Christian music. It is in the relationship with our Lord that we find rest.
“…and I will give you rest” this “rest” is not just physical sleep, but peace for the soul, freedom from anxiety, and relief from trying to do everything on your own. It is in the prayer, “I can’t do this on my own. I am exhausted and weary. Help me, Lord!” And the peace which passes all understanding fills our being. And the weariness of life is restored. Today, no matter what you are experiencing, go to our Lord—He is there and He will give you rest. God Bless. Amen.
