Faith...

is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

September 18, 2026

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)

Faith is the complete trust, confidence, or belief in a person, idea, or thing, often without absolute physical proof.  I have faith that when I turn on the light switch it will work.  I have faith when I get in my car, it will start.  I have faith that when I go to sleep at night, I will wake up.  But faith is so much more.

In this scripture it talks about faith in God.  But faith in God cannot be proven.  Because faith in God is a feeling, an emotion, a belief.  We believe—even if there is no visible proof of His existence.  Our faith is what keeps us going.  It is a belief in a higher power, divine intervention, and an understood belief in the creator of all things—without proof.

Proof is evidence establishing a fact or the truth of a statement.  It is the process of demonstrating that something is true, valid, or factual.  So why do we believe? Why do we have faith in God?

We believe in God because our mind naturally seeks purpose and order—God gives us that.  We believe in God because deep down within us we know our very existence comes from Him.  We believe in God because without Him we are nothing.  We believe in God because when life is hard, He helps us as no one else can. We believe in God because there is no greater love.  We believe in God because He loves us unconditionally.  We believe in God because He forgives us, even when we find it hard to forgive ourselves. We believe in God because on a personal level He is our hope in a world that can be very harsh.

We believe in God based on our faith and hope for a better day and future.  For faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  And what is it that overcomes the world our faith.  God Bless. Amen.
