God Establishes Our Steps.

We are to make plans while trusting God to direct us.

February 27, 2026

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 NIV)

When I was little, all I ever wanted to be was a mom.  To stay home and raise my children.  This desire was there through grade school, middle school, and high school.  I got married right out of high school and had 3 amazing sons.  I was able to stay home with them for a little bit.  But life got in the way.  My marriage ended, it wasn’t a good marriage.  I had to go to work.  I chose to go to college, to get an education, so I could provide for my 3 sons.  During my second year in college God called me into the ministry.  I accepted the call.  I packed up my 3 sons and moved to Enid Oklahoma. To go to Seminary.  My ministry began at the age of 27.

Sometimes we plan our life, but things change.  Life gets in the way and there is God.  This scripture tells us it is not wrong to make plans or set goals, but it should be done with the understanding that it is subject to change. We need to allow God to guide our decisions and trust Him when circumstances change. And a new plan emerges.

This wisdom highlights the contrast between human planning and divine sovereignty.  It encourages us to make plans while trusting that God directs our life’s path.  Thus, we could say we are to seek God’s will and remain flexible, trusting in His guidance over personal agendas.  Look back over your life, and see how God has worked in and through it.  God Bless. Amen.
