“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21 NIV)

           This verse highlights the contrast between human ambition, human wants, and divine sovereignty of God.  While it is natural and wise to make goals, the proverb reminds us that God’s ultimate plans will always succeed, offering comfort and peace when our own paths take unexpected turns.  Think about these words, look back over your life—really look and you will see how God moved in and through your life.  He still does.

           God was always a part of my life.  I was very young when I started talking to God.  I grew up in the Methodist Church.  My father taught Sunday School, and both my parents were a part of youth groups.  My mother taught me to pray, and my father answered all my questions about God, which were many.  A lot of the time when I asked a question he would say, “Well what do you think?”  I would answer my question and he would reply, “That sounds good to me.”  

In Sunday School I learned about God and memorized scripture.  Why, am I telling you this because “MY” plan in life was to get married right out of High School, to be a mom.  I did this and I have 3 amazing sons whom I am so proud of.  My marriage wasn’t a good one.  I divorced my husband of 9 years, and God called me into the ministry.  God’s plans were not my plans, God’s plan was for me to be a minister.  And when I look back over my life, and all the things I went through.  God used those things to help other people.

Sometimes in our darkest hours, when life seems so difficult if you can stop, take a moment, talk to God. You will find Him.  For he is always with you during the good, the bad, and the ugly.  For when human desire clashes with God’s purpose, it will typically manifest through discomfort, closed doors, through interventions, unsolicited opportunities, external confirmation and mature perspective.  

This Proverb helps us to understand that God is the God of all things.  Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails.  So, the next time life gets hard remember to be still and listen to that still small voice.  God Bless.  Amen.
