Gossip is a conversation that can be light and informal, or mean and intense and usually about other people’s business. It can be fun to gossip about others, but no one wants to be the subject of gossip. You can find people just about anywhere who gossip and tell the latest rumors about someone. Gossip can be casual or unconstrained conversation, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true. A lot of times people gossip to build themselves up, by trying to tear the other person down that they are gossiping about. We are told in the Bible that gossip is wrong, and we are to refrain from gossiping about others. If it is done with full knowledge and deliberate consent, the action then becomes a sin. Gossip is a far more serious matter than most of us like to consider. James 1:26 reads, “If you claim to be religious but do not control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.” Leviticus 19:16 says, “Do not go about spreading slander among your people.” Psalm 34:13 states, “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.” Today, let us let us decline from gossiping about others. Let us be the people God has called us to be. Truth be told none of us want to be gossiped about, thus let us not gossip about others. For if you cannot say anything nice, do not say anything at all. God Bless. Amen.
