Have you ever tried to convince someone of something?

November 26, 2023

Have you ever tried to convince someone of something? Have you ever tried to persuade someone on a certain issue? Have you ever had to reassure someone that what you are saying is right and true? We all have opinions, beliefs, and feelings, which are very personal. For example, the way I believe in God, my understanding of God goes back to my childhood and what I was taught by my parents and the church I was attending. As I grew older, I was influenced by other churches I attended. When I went to seminary and when I was at Baptist Medical Center getting my credentials for a Chaplain these two organizations had a huge impact on my understanding of God. When my brother died in a tragic car wreck in 1988, it had an enormous impact on my perceptive of God. When the Oklahoma City bombing occurred, as I worked with the many people after that horrific tragedy, that influenced me. As I worked 9/11, my understanding of God and people changed. A lot of us have heard of the man Gandhi. He was a great man. He influenced many people in India and around the world because of his beliefs in God. He was a religious leader of Hinduism. One day a reporter came up to him and asked him, “You live as if you were a Christian. You follow what is in the Christian Bible as if you were a Christian. How come you never became a Christian?” Gandhi replied, “If I had read the Bible first I would have become a Christian, but I met a Christian first.” Actions always reveal to others the type of person we really are. What type a person are you? Do your actions bring to light a person of God? See our actions speak louder than words. You do not need to convince someone or persuade someone about your beliefs. They will see the type a person you really are through your actions. What type of person do others see through your actions? So if someone asks you about God, tell them. In all reality though, they will see it first, that is why they are asking. God Bless. Amen.
