Hebrew 4:12 reads, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” For the word of God is alive and active means that God’s written and spoken word is a dynamic, powerful force that is not merely a static text, but a living entity that can penetrate and transform a person’s heart. God can and will distinguish between the soul and spirit, the joints and marrow, and expose the true thoughts, desires, actions, and intentions of the heart. God sees through any pretense and reveals the truth of a person’s inner being. For us to believe that God does not know when we sin is silly. For us to think we can get away with anything is ridiculous. But in our humanness, we believe we can and act as if God does not know what we are doing, thinking, or saying. I saw a Billboard once that said, “I am watching you. God.” If only we would live out our lives with this understanding—God is watching us, all the time. I think we would act differently don’t you? It is something for us to think about. God Bless. Amen.
