My Hearts Desire

We are to long and search for God Daily.

March 23, 2026

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” (Psalm 42:1 NIV)

This verse is a poignant expression of spiritual longing and yearning for God’s presence and His love. It uses a deer as an example of being thirsty in the wilderness to describe a life-and-death need for God.

The “panting” indicates intense thirst and desperation, suggesting the soul’s need for God is as vital as water is for survival.

The “deep longing” represents a craving for an intimate relationship with God, particularly in times of loneliness, struggle and spiritual dryness.

This scripture highlights that true satisfaction in life is only found in God, encouraging us to search for God as a deer searches and pants for water when thirsty.

The song “As The Deer” sums this scripture up very well.  As the deer pants for the water so my soul longs after You. You alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship You.  You alone are my strength, my shield to You alone will my spirit yield. You alone are my hearts desire and I long to worship You. I want You more than gold or silver only You can satisfy You alone are the real joy giver and the apple of my eye. You’re my friend and You are my Father even though You are my King I love You more than any other so much more than anything.”

Today make God your heart’s desire.  God Bless. Amen.
