O Lord,

Let my words and thoughts be acceptable to You.

September 23, 2026

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14 NIV)

“May these words of my mouth” This part of the scripture is a reminder to keep our speech kind, truthful, and helpful.  Just because you think something does not mean you should say it out loud.  Has anyone ever said to you, “That is a pretty dress, but the color is just not right for you.” or “You did ok, but to be truthful any job would be better than the one you just did—just saying.” Or you say something and then you say, “I’m just telling the truth.” Or “I just thought you needed to know.” Or “I’m just being honest.”  These types of words spoken are not kind or helpful. Even though they might be true, speaking words to hurt, is mean.

“This meditation of my heart” is a request to keep our hidden thoughts and desires pure.  If you cannot say anything nice do not say anything at all.  Just because you think something, does not mean you should act on it or speak it.

“Acceptable in thy sight” this means that God sees and hears everything we say and think.  God hears everything we say and think is something we forget.  The saying, “What would Jesus do” is something we always need to keep in the forefront of our mind.  The other saying is, “I’m watching you—God” If we really thought God was watching, I do not think we would do or say some of the things we say or do!

“My strength and my redeemer” these two words acknowledge that we need God’s power to live right and His grace to save us.  This scripture reminds us how important it is to be centered in God, in all things.  To keep our eyes focused on God, because when we are focused on God, we are not apt to act mean, our words and thoughts are kind, truthful, and helpful.  It is something to remember today when we are out and about.  God Bless. Amen.
