The Bible tells us, kind words; go further than mean words spoken in anger. Words can build up or words can hurt and tear another person down. We have all said things, mean things, to another person, trying to hurt them as much as we are hurting. As we get older, we begin to learn, not to say harsh words out of anger. Or hopefully we do. Yet, we all still need to learn to bridle our tongue. We need to learn to think before we speak. By counting to 10, and if it is still something that has value and will not cause harm, then speak the words. Not out of meanness, but gently and kindly. Never speak in anger. In the New Testament, in the book of James, the author speaks on the importance of bridling ones tongue. James 3:6 says, “And the tongue is a fire.” James 3:9 states, “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing.” Proverbs 18:21 reads, “but words are powerful weapons that can inspire or destroy someone.” Then Proverbs 12:18 reads, “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Sometimes, not saying anything is the best course of action. Sometimes, thinking, before you speak, can save a lot of pain and heartache. It is something to strive for. God Bless. Amen.
