by focusing on God's word, not our own desires.

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32 NKJV)
What is truth? Truth is fundamentally defined as that which conforms to reality, fact, or actuality. Truth, the sun rises and sets every day. There is light and there is darkness. There is life and there is death. There is health and there is sickness. There is good and there is evil. There is right and there is wrong.
Jesus is speaking to Jewish believers in the temple. He is teaching about spiritual freedom and being a slave to sin. Jesus refers to God’s divine reality and God’s word, which exposes the illusion of sin and aligns human hearts with their intended design. And yet there are times when we hide from the truth, we avoid the truth, we deny the truth, because of our sinful nature. We get so absorbed in what we want and our desires that nothing else matters—we sin. We fall short of what God has called us to do and to be.
“And the truth will set you free” is important because it makes us deal with reality and the truth which we become enslaves to—our human desires. This scripture focuses on spiritual liberation from sin, guilt, pride, and deception. Jesus’ teachings require that one abides in His word as true. Thus, you are free from the evils of the world and your own desires.
Easier said than done, don’t you think, especially when we get so caught up with what we want when we want it. It is something we all need to practice. Focusing on the truth not on what we want! God Bless. Amen.
