There are times, when we are talking with someone, we are thinking ahead to what we want to say next. Instead of listening to what the person is saying. Listening, really listening is a learned behavior. All can learn to listen. As you listen, you are engaged with the other person. You discover what is important to this person, as you discover, you learn about the person you are with. See, no one cares what you think until that person knows you care and this is only accomplished through listening. Listening is a key ingredient to any healthy relationship. When you are present and listening to someone, you are being intentional about staying focused on the person and conversation. You are in the moment with this person. Leo Tolstoy said, “There is only one time that is important – NOW! It is the most important time because it is the only time that we have…” Thus, you create a deep bond between you and the other person. This holds true to our relationship with God. It is very important to listen while praying to God. 1 Kings 19:12 reads, “And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.” And there is God. Today, be in the stillness of our LORD. Let God’s presence move in and through you and know that the LORD your God is with you. Be still! Listen! God Bless. Amen.
