What does it mean to make a vow

What does it mean to make a vow to the Lord?

March 22, 2025

What does it mean to make a vow to the Lord? Making a vow to the Lord God Almighty means making a solemn, binding promise or commitment to God, often regarding a specific action or course of behavior, with the expectation of fulfilling that promise. “When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.” (Numbers 30:2) Have you made a pledge, a vow to the LORD and did not keep it? How about your vow to the Lord, Jesus the Christ your Savior and that you will serve Him in all your ways? Your marriage vows, being a good parent to your children, how about saying that you would do something—yet you didn’t follow through with what you said you would do. To name just a few things that we as humans might not live up to what we said we would do. As a child, my parents taught me—what you say and what you do—reflects the type of person you are. I was also told that my word was everything and that when someone heard my name that person had a preconceived idea of the type of person I was. Take an inventory of what type of person you are, do you need to make an adjustment on how you interact with others to be the man or woman that God has called you to be? Remember, the vows we have made and kept, reflect the type of person we are! It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
