What is wisdom? Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. Good judgement is the ability to make reasonable, fair, and good decisions by combining personal qualities with knowledge and experience. It is being able to gather information, weighing pros and cons, and considering how it effects not only you but others around you. In our society we need people to have good judgement and those who are wise as well. How do you view yourself? Are you a wise person? Do you have good judgement? Are you a person that sometimes has good judgement and sometimes not so good? Do you know any wise people and those with good judgement? The Bible tells us that good judgment and wisdom comes from a fear of the LORD, through seeking and applying God’s commandments, and by developing discernment, and knowledge. True wisdom and knowledge are not based on appearances or selfish ambition, but on honesty, integrity, humility, and righteous conduct. Proverbs 8:12-16a reads, “Wisdom and good judgment live together, for wisdom knows where to discover knowledge and understanding. If anyone respects and fears God, he will hate evil. For wisdom hates pride, arrogance, corruption, and deceit of every kind. Wisdom, gives good advice and common sense.” We are not to be sheep lead to slaughter, we are to think, learn, research, and understand things and life. We have a mind that we need to use. My father used to say to me when I was younger and wanted to follow the crowd, “If they asked you to jump off a cliff, are you going to do it. You need to start thinking for yourself! Do not be a follower. You have a good mind so start using it.” Good advice! It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
