What is something that really bothers you?
August 18, 2024

What unnerves you? What is something that really bothers you? What causes you to cringe as if fingernails are going down the chalkboard? Different things bother us for different reasons. Someone complaining all the time, someone eating with their mouth open, someone not turning off the light when they leave a room, or is it the way a loved one talks so much? When you focus on the things that bother you—you set yourself up for failure. It is as if all you can focus on or think about are the things that bother you. You begin to lose perspective of other things in life. Soon you are so miserable that life becomes a chore, and you just can’t understand why your life is so frustrating. Maybe it is because the things that bother you seem to fill your mind, not the good in life. In life you can let things bother you or you can let them go. When something is bothering you go to the person and talk about it—share your perspective. Then let it go and let God. Focus on God. Pray, sing songs of praise, listen to Christian music, meditate and whenever those thought come into your mind focus on the LORD God Almighty, for you cannot think of two things at once so focus on God. Also count your blessings. If it is a person, remember the things you like about that person, focus on that. If it is a person on TV change the channel. You get the picture—focus on the good not the bad. Jonah 2:7 reads, “When you feel hopeless, you can turn your thoughts to God and his goodness, greatness, love, fairness, and kindness emerge.” Psalm 107:1 says, “You can give thanks to the Lord because he is good.” Philippians 4:8 reminds us, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is condemnable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. “If you can focus on God and the good things around you, not the things that bother you, life just seems to get better. God Bless. Amen.
