Who has made the most impact on your life?

July 10, 2023

Who has made the most impact on your life? Who is someone you look up to? Who influenced your life? Who was your role model while growing up? I was asked those questions, when I was at Baptist Medical Center, while going through Clinical Pastoral Education. I said, “My mother and father and God.” My supervisor did not think that was a good enough answer. He said, “What female influenced your life. Name a female role model.” I said, “My mother.” He was frustrated with me and told me to think about it. I said, “I won’t change my mind. God called me into the ministry and my parents taught me about God and life. Why aren’t those good enough answers?” He said, “There has to be other role models!” Those were my only ones. Needless to say, that supervisor and I did not get along after that. I feel my parents and God were great role models. Some of the role models today are rude, inappropriate, mean, loudmouth, and self-centered. Which are not good qualities to have in a role model. Sometimes, people say and do things to influence you in either a positive or negative way. Remember, if you keep your eyes focused upon the LORD God Almighty, you will not and cannot go wrong in life! Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
