Memories, Laughter, Life!

Life is short, enjoy, don't let life steal your joy.

August 18, 2026

“This is the day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24NIV)

It was August 18th of my soon to be Junior year of High School.  I made a two-layer chocolate cake, my friends Debbie and Donna were with me and my 2 little brothers ages two and one.  My mother was in the hospital, my dad was visiting her, it was around 2 in the afternoon.  My friends and I were going to surprise them, because it was my parents’ anniversary.

At that time children were not allowed in the hospitals, so our mission was to sneak my two brothers and the chocolate cake into the hospital.  Donna and Debbie each carried one of my brothers, I had the cake.  We went up 3 flights of stairs—laughing all the way in our adventure to celebrate their anniversary.

I told everyone to be quiet, and we really tried, but this was an adventure that was not allowed at the time in a hospital.  I open the door off the stairwell, looking in both directions to make sure no one saw us and I said, “coast is clear, let’s go.”  Down the hall we went and into the room, we made it, we didn’t get caught. My parents were so surprised.  We all laughed and had a wonderful time.  I think their anniversary was special that day.

Memories are forever scared and can never be taken away.  There are good and bad memories.  Memories filled with tears and laughter.  Sometimes in life, we forget the good times because we are so wrapped up in the everyday grind of life.  We forget who and what we are.  We forget that we are beloved child of God.  We forget to enjoy the day at hand.

Laughter is good because it triggers an immediate chemical and physical shift that lowers your stress, boosts your immune system, and connects you to others.  It acts like a natural medicine for your mind, body, and spirit.  Today, don’t take life so seriously, laugh, enjoy, give thanks and remember those special moments.  Life is short.  Don’t let life steal your joy.  Let’s make this day a day to remember.  God Bless. Amen.
