“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD; whose confidence is in him.” (Jeremiah 17:7 NIV)

Trust is important.  Trust involves every part of our life.  We are to trust our spouse, our family, our children, our in-laws, our friends, our co-workers, our neighbors, our church family, the police, the firefighters, government officials, and hopefully the government itself.  We trust our car to start every time we drive it. We trust the electricity and gas companies to light up our homes and keep our homes warm.  We trust the sun will rise and the moon will set every day and night.  These are things we trust.  But sometimes that trust is broken, we get let down, and relationships are fractured.

Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.  At its core, it means placing your confidence in someone or something else, believing that they will act with integrity, keep their promises, and look out for your well-being.  Trust comes from experience, integrity, honesty, and faith.

As believers in God, we trust God. Trusting God is an active choice to rely on Him—the creator of all things, His promises, and His timing, especially when life is uncertain or painful.  We trust God because of who and what He is.  We trust God because He is undeniable, unbelievable, all-knowing, unchanging.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  He is the one sure thing in this life of ours.  And He always keeps His promises.  

Sometimes we have a hard time with God because He doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want, nor does His timing always come when we want.  That does not mean He has broken His promise to us.  What God has promised is that He will always be there with us in every situation and every circumstance that comes our way.  The key is learning to trust God all the time—not just when things are going our way. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD; whose confidence is in him.”  It is something for us to remember.  Trust in the Lord!  God Bless.
