A promise made is a promise kept.

A promise made is a promise kept. You said you were going to do something then do it. Don’t say something and then not follow through. When you break your promise or don’t do what you said you would do, people lose respect for you, their trust in you dissipates, and your reliability diminishes. When you make a promise to God it has significant ramifications too, including the potential for spiritual consequences like sin if the promise is broken, as well as personal ones such as guilt, broken trust, and reputational damage. Because when you say, vow, or promise to do something and do not follow through, it reveals your character, it shows what type of person you really are. Religious texts emphasize avoiding rash promises to prevent these issues. Ecclesiastes 5:5 reads, “It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.” Deuteronomy 23:21 says, “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it and avoid making vows you have no intention of fulfilling.” Matthew 5:37 tells us, “Let what you say be simply “Yes” or “No”; anything more than this comes from evil.” So be cautious, avoid making rash or impulsive promises to God, as they can lead you down sin, regret, guilt, and loss of integrity, for breaking your word is a failure of being trustworthy. And this applies to everyday life as well. It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
