Actions Speak Louder than Words1

Don't just apologize, be better!

May 28, 2026

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” (Proverbs28:13 NIV)

This verse delivers a straightforward blueprint for accountability.  Concealing, hiding mistakes, making excuses, or offering shallow apologies leads to stagnation.  Renouncing, confessing the wrong and actively abandoning the behavior leads to restoration.

True change requires action—leaving behind, stopping the bad behavior. The scripture emphasizes that a verbal apology is just the starting point, the ultimate goal is the permanent alteration of your action.  Don’t just apologize, be better!

The sentiment “don’t apologize, be better” is rooted in the biblical concept of repentance—which translates to a transformative change of heart and action, rather than just saying “sorry”.

How many times do we say, “I’m sorry!” yet we continue to do the very thing we are apologizing for.  “I’m sorry, I will try harder.”  Yet we never try harder we continue the behavior.  “I’m sorry.  I am going to quit drinking.” Yet we continue to drink.  “I’m sorry.  I won’t complain anymore.”  Yet our behavior never changes, complaining and being negative continues to come out of our mouth.

“Don’t just apologize, be better” is something we all need to follow.  God wants us to do what we say we are going to do.  If our words would become our actions, I think our lives would be transformed. God Bless. Amen.
