Everyone gets sad, disappointed, or even depressed at times.

December 6, 2023

Everyone gets sad, disappointed, or even depressed at times. It happens in life. Life is filled with good times as well as not so good times. In the midst of what is going on in our life, sometimes we begin to feel sorry for our self and then depression can sets in. There is a study that shows when a child is crying uncontrollably you have to distract the child. Such as putting his or her hand on a cold window, or touching a dog or a cat, anything that will get the child to un-focus on himself or herself. This is true with depression. If a person does not learn how to un-focus on his or her “self” depression will begin to take over. The person will soon begin to spiral in self-pity. All he or she can think about is how miserable he or she is. So how do we get out of this spiral of self-pity and depression? Different things will help. Get up out of bed, brush your teeth, take a shower, and get dressed for the day. Stay constantly busy, read the Bible, pray, exercise and see a counselor. Also help others, focus on other people. Help someone. Praise God in everything. Psalm 40:1-3a reads, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on the rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.” Sometimes, when you cannot feel God or understand why it does not feel as if He is helping you the way you want Him to, that is when God is working the most in your life. Trust Him. He is there. Believe. Be patient. Do something, stay busy and focus on someone other than yourself! God Bless. Amen.
