Gossip, we all gossip. Gossip means to have

Gossip, we all gossip.

June 19, 2024

Gossip, we all gossip. Gossip means to have a casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true. Every one of us has experienced gossip whether we are the gossiper or the receiver of gossip. Gossip hurts and causes broken trust. In a YouGov survey about two-thirds of Americans say gossiping is usually or always bad for society. In this survey those asked described gossiping as harmful and mean-spirited. Some even described it as sinful, addictive and then there were those who said it can be very entertaining. This survey discovered that the younger generation found gossiping somewhat fun and enjoyed it. While the older generation tried to refrain from it. Could this have to do with our moral decline? The Bible even tells us not to gossip. Ephesians 4:29 reads, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Proverbs 20:19 says, “He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with a gossip.” James 1:26 tells us, “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” Sometimes we just need a reminder to be careful with our words. Build people up, do not tear them down! It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
