Last month when I was getting my eye shot for my wet macular degeneration (AMD) the doctor said, “Be real still and don’t talk.” I said, “I will be good.” For the past month I have been thinking about me saying “I will be good.” I realized I must have said that a lot as a child. I must have given my parents endless days of getting into things and asking questions. Because the statement “I will be good” implies you are not being good. You are causing problems. Can you imagine God saying to us, “Be good!” But you know God does tell us to be good, to do the right thing, to walk the walk, to be the type of person God has called you to be. To be good means acting in ways that are morally right, virtuous, and beneficial to others. It encompasses qualities like kindness, honesty, fairness, and a desire to contribute positively to the world. It is seeing the good in others, not demeaning them or gossiping about them. Being good is avoiding bad actions. Galatians 6:9-10 reads, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Today, let us focus on being good! God Bless. Amen.
