“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV)

Love is shown through actions, it is a verb.  It is a complex mix of emotions, behaviors, and beliefs associated with strong feelings of affection, protectiveness, warmth, and respect for another person.  Love is patient and kind.  It is not resentful nor rude.   Love is not jealous or arrogant.  Love does not insist on its own way.  Love is honest and does not rejoice in the wrong.  Love is not easily angered.  Love does not delight in evil.

Evil is generally defined as deliberately causing harm, suffering, or destruction to others and or self.  Evil is moral rebellion, it includes both internal sin (pride, selfishness, hatred) and external acts of injustice.  Evil consists of sexual inappropriateness—whether it involves harassment, objectification, promiscuity, or infidelity.  This behavior, this evilness, turns a human being created in the image of God into an object to be used for personal gratification.  

This scripture tells us we are not to delight in evil—we are to stay away from it.  For in God’s eyes there is no joy in evil.  Love does not find happiness when bad things happen, when people sin, or when injustice wins.

Today, let us be the definition of love not evil. Let our actions manifest love and truth in all that we do.  God Bless. Amen.
