Self-control is the ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires or the expression of them in one’s behavior, especially in difficult situations. An example of not having self-control, you are having an argument with someone. It is not going the way you want. You start screaming at the person. All the while thinking if I scream loud enough I will make that person understand my point of view. Not true. Screaming at someone will never make the other person see your point of view. All you did was show a loss of self-control. In the Bible, there are different references to self-control such as, “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.” (Proverbs 25:28) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” (2 Peter 1:5-7) Sometimes we need to be reminded of this—sometimes we forget how we are to act and communicate with others. It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
