What washes us from our sin?
June 3, 2026

“…the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 NIV)
In this scripture and the song “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” written by Robert Lowry in the 19th-century reveals to us the importance of Jesus’ blood. It is what cleanses us from our sins. The chorus of the song goes: “Oh, precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow—nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
We sin; we make mistakes—nothing but the blood of Jesus will cleanse us. Think about it, “I am so frustrated, I take it out on my spouse—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I am rude and at times hateful—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I lie and misrepresent others—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I gossip—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I steal—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I disrespect my parents—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I drink too much—nothing but the blood of Jesus. I think ill will of others—nothing but the blood of Jesus.” These examples show us that we are purified by Jesus’ blood.
Sometimes we forget that the way we are purified is to go to God and confess our sin. Confessing our sins is vital because it restores our relationship with God—bringing healing and making us right with God. Because sin breaks our closeness with God. Confession clears that barrier and restores our relationship with God.
This verse offers assurance that Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross continually cleanses us from all sin. But first we must go to God. For God promises to forgive and cleanse us completely when we admit our wrongs—nothing but the blood of Jesus’. So, what sins are you in need of confessing? God Bless. Amen.
