Where Does Our Help Come From?

Our help comes from the Lord!

June 23, 2026

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalms121:1-2 KJV)

In life where does your help come from?  When you are not doing well in life you go see a counselor.  When you are in need of spiritual advice you see a minister, pastor, or Priest.  When you are ill you see a doctor. When you are having trouble in school you see a tutor.  When you need help exercising you see a trainer.  When you need to learn how to swim you take swimming lessons. When you learn to drive you go to drivers’ ED.  But what about everyday life?

This passage of scripture affirms that God is our ultimate source of strength, wisdom, knowledge, and courage.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains” reveals to us that in ancient times, hills and mountains represented danger.  They were places where bandits hid and where pagan shrines were built.  The traveler always looked ahead at a dangerous journey and would know the risks that were involved.

“Where does my help come from?” This part of the scripture shows the vulnerability of the traveler.

“My help comes from the LORD” for the traveler realizes security does not come from earthly strong holds, things, false idols, but from God alone.

“The Maker of heaven and earth” establishes God’s absolute authority. This verse implies that God is infinitely larger and more powerful than any problem the traveler faced.

Today, people turn to this verse during times of crisis, grief, or major life transitions.  The passage serves as a mental reset encourages you to look away from your overwhelming problems and look up to your ultimate source—God.  For God alone is our all in all.  A very presence help in times of trouble.  God Bless.  Amen.
