Who Rules Your Heart?

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

August 29, 2026

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15 NIV)

Peace is generally defined as a state of tranquility, quiet, or freedom from disturbance, conflict, and anxiety.  So, when frustration occurs there is no peace.  When anger raises its ugly head there is no peace. When meanness is on your lips there is no peace.  When sadness seems to rule your day there is no peace.  When fear consumes you there is no peace.  When loneliness is upon you there is no peace.  When conflict surrounds you there is no peace.  When anxiety is ever present there is no peace.

Peace comes from within.  In this verse “Let the peace of Christ rule your hearts” the key word is “rule” which means to let Christ be your guide, your sustainer, your counselor, your hope, your strength, your wisdom, and your courage.  For when you let Christ rule your heart, peace comes.

How does this occur?  By developing a relationship with Christ.  As your relationship grows peace comes because you learn to trust Jesus through disturbance, conflict, and those frustrating days.  It is through shifting your focus from your circumstances to His character.  Trust is not an emotion; it is a choice to rely on God when life feels chaotic. And you pray, “I cannot fix this situation, so I am handing it over to You.  Let the peace of Christ rule my heart.  Give me that peace which passes all understanding.  I trust You Lord.  These things I prayer.” Then be still, trust, and soon the chaotic situation will pass.  God Bless. Amen.
