Words Do Hurt!

Our words can build up or tear down.

June 25, 2026

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29 KJV)

Words can hurt, demean, or tear down.   Words can also build up, uplift, and encourage.  How we use our words is important. This verse encourages us to avoid harmful or corrupt communication and to speak only words that encourage, support, and bring grace to others.  Which can be hard to do at times.  Especially in the heat of an argument.

This verse tells us to avoid negative speech—unwholesome talk, corrupt words, gossip, slander, vulgar language, or anything meant to tear someone down.

It then tells us to build others up with our words for they should be edifying—to strengthen, comfort, and support the person listening.

Think about it, our conversations should be a source of kindness, favor, and blessing.  Yet that is not the case—I wonder what has happened?  Today, think before you speak.  And if you cannot say anything nice keep it to yourself. If we all did this, we could be a part of the change that is so desperately needed.  It is something to try.  God Bless. Amen.
