Words have Consequences.

What we say can either build a person up or tear them down.

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” (Proverbs 18:21 NLT)

The meaning of this verse is that our words carry great weight, they can hurt or help others, which always brings consequences based on what we say. For our words can build people up with kindness and truth or tear them down with harshness and lies.  Words can reprimand or encourage.  Words can explain things of importance or just be spoken to hear oneself talk, because of that person’s need.  Words can be monologues or dialogues.  Words are how we communicate.  Or they can just fill the air with nothingness, just ramble.  Words are important for they are how we share how we feel, think, or respond to others.

So, what do your words reveal about you?  Think about it, the things you say reveal the type of person you are! And we must not forget the words we speak, do and will always have consequences.  This scripture is a reminder to think before you speak and try to use your voice to engage and heal instead of boredom (monotony) and hurt.

In the movie “Masters of the Universe” at the very end of the credits there is a presentation board that explicitly reads “Villains Monologue, Heroes Dialogue”.

What true words. Today, think before you speak. For the very words you speak will have consequences.  God Bless. Amen.
