God gives us Confidence.

Timidity does not come from God.

March 7, 2026

“For the Spirit of God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2Timothy 1:7 NIV)

Timid means showing a lack of courage or confidence; easily frightened.  This scripture is written by the Apostle Paul to encourage Timothy against fear, it highlights that God provides a spirit of strength, affection, and a sound mind, rather than cowardice, to face life’s challenges.

So, what in your life causes you to be timid, afraid or turn toward cowardness?  Is it a social situation involving potential judgement, rejection, or failure?  Is it your marriage because you are unable to stand up for yourself?  Is it a physical fear like heights, spiders, needles, or flying?  Could it be your insecurity of public speaking, enclosed spaces, or being vulnerable?  These fears often stem from deep-seated emotional, physical, or social anxieties.

Sometimes we forget God does not produce fear or timidity in believers.  The power of the Holy Spirit enables us to endure and gives us strength to face the situation rather than to flee.  This scripture reminds us to rely on God and God’s strength, not personal fear or anxiety.

When I was younger, I was extremely afraid of life.  A minister told me that everytime I became fearful to say the “Lord’s Prayer” repeatedly.  He said that you cannot think of two things at once.  If you focus on God, the other things around you dissipate and the power of God will see you through the situationat hand.  It is something to remember.  For God is the God of all things.  God Bless. Amen.
