Why is it Easier to Believe the Bad?

Don't let someone ruin your day!

March 20, 2026

“A am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14 NIV)

Have you ever noticed that unkind words, the demeaning things people say to you, are easier to believe than what you think and know about yourself?  For example, you get ready for the day.  You feel good, you are looking good, you feel like you are on top of the world.  Then someone says to you, “You look tired.  Are you feeling alright?"  And all of a sudden you doubt how you felt prior to those words. You question yourself.  You think well maybe I am tired, if I look tired. You begin to believe the words that were just spoken to you.  Sad but true.

Why is it easier to believe the bad?  The words spoken to us, than what we know is true and right.  I believe it has to do with our faith.  For our faith is our foundation of who and what we are.

Our faith unlocks God’s promises in our lives.  Our faith is rooted in God.  God is a God of compassion, love, mercy, and forgiveness. God does not demean us, ridicule us, nor yell at us.  He lifts us up when we are down.  He comforts us when we are hurting, He sustains us during our hardships, He strengthens us when we are weak, He supports us when we are down, He gives us peace when we are anxious, He calms us when we are fearful, He gives us unconditional love when we feel unlovable.  He gives us God-esteem when we have trouble believing that we are worthy and have value. God is our all in all.

So then next time you doubt yourself go to God and remember you are created in the image of God.  You are loved unconditionally.  You are a beloved child of God.  And in God’s eyes you are wonderful and amazing.  Don’t let doubt and the unkind words of others ruin what you know to be true.  It is something for you to remember.  God Bless. Amen.
