When I was around 4 or 5 years old, we had a huge tree in front of our house. Whenever I felt upset and my tears flowed. I would climb this tree, telling the tree all my secrets and to why I was crying. It was my special tree, where I felt safe. Where is a safe place for you to go? Is this safe place your home, your spouse, a friend, a church? This safe place is where you feel protected and secure. It is a refuge. To take refuge means to find a safe place. Refuge comes from a French word meaning “to flee” and in most cases; a refuge is a place to flee to in order to get away from something unsafe. Scripture tells us that God is our refuge, a place where we can go for safety. Psalms 46:1 reads, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 9:2 says, “I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress. My God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 18:2 tells us, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Sometimes, we just need a safe place to go, to renew our strength, for we can face any situation we are in knowing that God is there—for God is our refuge in all of life. He is there. Go to Him. God Bless. Amen.
