Do you ever feel sorry for yourself, thinking

Do you ever feel sorry for yourself, thinking how unfair life is treating you?

August 24, 2023

Do you ever feel sorry for yourself, thinking how unfair life is treating you? Or do you ever think, “I just never seem to get a break?” When you start feeling sorry for yourself, depression can set in. All you can focus on is what you do not have and what you want! Every person is prone to self-pity. When we decide that life is not centered on us, then life opens up for good things to happen. You have the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the wisdom to discern. The key to life is not to focus on what you do not have or what you want. We need to learn to focus on what you have and not loose site of all the wonderful things that are before you. C. S. Lewis said, “The moment you have a self at all, there is a possibility of putting yourself first—wanting to be the center—wanting to be God, in fact. That was the sin of Satan: and that was the sin he taught the human race.” Jonah 4:10-11 reads, “You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should not I pity Niveveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” Jonah pitied the plant because it shaded him and when the plant died Jonah felt sorry for himself! Self-pity! God brought Jonah back to reality. See, there is no magic formula for laying aside the weight of self-pity. It is a choice of yours and yours alone. I have found, staying focus on God and not yourself works best. Be thankful for all the things you have. Give thanks. Praise God. Be kind. Help another person. Soon it is no longer about you, but God and others. It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
