Have you ever been told to count to

Have you ever been told to count to 10 before you speak when angry?

May 18, 2025

Have you ever been told to count to 10 before you speak when angry? Anger can be very harmful, not only to you, but toward the other person as well. Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility. It is an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has done you wrong. There is an old Indian tradition that when someone was angry, that person must leave the village. That person goes to a certain tree outside the village. It is called the anger tree. Then the angry person yells, scream, and shout at that one specific tree. They say that the tree becomes stunted in growth, never flourishes as the other trees around it. I think this is what happens to us when someone yells at us. It hurts us. Ecclesiastes 7:9 reads, “Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” Sometimes counting to 10 is the best course of action. God Bless. Amen.
