We can be so critical of ourselves. I

We can be so critical of ourselves.

October 5, 2025

We can be so critical of ourselves. I have heard people say while they are trying to accomplish a task, “I am so stupid. I can’t do anything right.” I have also heard people say, “I am so fat and ugly.” I have even heard someone say, “I hate myself.” Such harsh words to speak of yourself. When you make statements like these, you are putting yourself down in such a negative fashion, it is also as if you do not like yourself. By these statements you are eroding your confidence, your positive thinking, and your self-worth with every negative thought. We are to love ourselves. I heard someone say once, “You treat other people better than yourself”. Which is probably true for a lot of us. Learning to take our negative thoughts and transform them into positive and loving thoughts is the key to learning to love ourselves as God does. Psalm 139:13-15 reads, “For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” Ways to turn our negative thoughts into positive ones is by reprograming our thoughts. When a negative thought occurs in your mind say, “No I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I love myself as God loves me. And God does not make mistakes.” Sure, we all need to take care of ourselves. We need to eat right, exercise, and focus on our spiritual side, but we do not need to demean ourselves. We are to love ourselves for who and what we are. A beloved child of God. Created in God’s image. Truth. So today and for the rest of your life try to be aware of those negative thoughts. Be intentional about turning your negative thoughts into positive thoughts. It is something for all of us to learn to do. God Bless. Amen.
