What is sin? 1 John 3:4 says, “Sin is a transgression of the law.” Jesus defined sin as an internal condition stemming from a sinful heart, not just external actions. It is a state of rebellion against God; it leads to thoughts and deeds against God. Which then separates us from God. Sin is anything that separates us from God. Gossip is sin. James 1:27, “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” To lust is a sin, it is a strong sexual desire. Matthew 5:28 says, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery. Adultery is a sin. Hebrew 13:4 says, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” To judge another person is a sin. Luke 6:37-42 reads, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” The 7 deadly sins are pride, greed, wrath/anger, envy/to want other peoples things, lust, gluttony/overindulgence, and sloth/laziness. The 10 Commandments are: I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange gods before me. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain. Remember to keep holy the LORD’s day. Honor your father and mother. You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor. If we know these are true, why do we make excuses and do them anyway. It is something to think about. God Bless. Amen.
